Padma Newsome is an Australian composer, arranger and performer based in Mallacoota, Victoria. His musical palette incorporates modernist elements, folk music from India, chamber music remnants, and energy founded in the pop/rock world. He composes for traditional large and small ensemble, the electro-acoustic medium, improvised chamber ensemble, music for dance and theatre, and creates arrangements for several rock bands.

His works have been performed by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Academy of Melbourne, Locrian Chamber Players, and Da Capo Chamber Players and on recordings by The National, Clogs and The Devastations.

As a founding member, composer, and violinist/violist of the improvised chamber ensemble,Clogs, Padma has toured extensively throughout the United States and Europe. He has also performed with numerous Australian ensembles, including the Seymour Group, Fresh Air, Eggplant, Sydney Symphony, and the Australian Chamber Orchestra, working under numerous conductors including Sir Christopher Hogwood, Sir Charles Makkerras, and Stuart Challender.

Newsome is a 2004 recipient of a commissioning and residency award from the Fromm Music Foundation at Harvard University. Other commissions and grants include an Artist Fellowship from the Connecticut Commission on the Arts, Australia Council for the Arts, Vermont Arts Council, Fulbright Post-graduate Award, Symphony Australia, Arts SA, Helpmann Academy, and numerous private commissions.
