New York based artist Nick Marks creates music that "seamlessly
fuses elements of jazz, neo-soul, and electronica into a
mesmerizing symphony that defies conventions." (Earmilk). His
ethos is to provide a soundtrack for listeners that helps them
feel energized and at ease, facilitating deep emotional
connections to moments of everyday life.
A conservatory trained jazz and classical pianist and self taught
composer, Marks combined his training with a deep passion and
study of film scores and synthesizers. He blends the real with
the surreal, designed to stimulate the soul, body and mind. Born
in Melbourne, Australia, Marks grew up among that city's
innovative musical scenes, absorbing the cross-pollination of
jazz, neo-soul, R&B, funk, latin and hip-hop influences.
Having been the 'invisible hands' behind numerous film, tv and
other media scores as composer, producer and musical director,
Marks released his debut EP 'Cinematic Chromatics Vol. I' (2023),
described as "a sonic masterpiece that will leave you craving
more" (Earmilk). His releases received support on Spotify's
"Fresh Finds Jazz" playlist, BBC, Jazzwise and Bandcamp Weekly.
His music has been performed in iconic venues including Carnegie
Hall.
Since moving to New York in 2016, Marks has firmly established
himself as an in-demand composer, producer and musical director.
He writes scores for feature film and tv, and is a frequent
collaborator/arranger for various cross-genre artists. He's also
written for notable Hollywood Companies, including Village
Roadshow's logo sting in 2014.
2024 will see the release of Cinematic Chromatics Vols. II and
III. In this trilogy, Marks further presents various aural mood
boards that join the dots between genres, creating a sonic
universe that is wholly his own. His music resonates with the
full spectrum of emotions, a reflection of his view that life is
multifaceted with layers of beauty and complexity.
