Sally Greenaway (b.1984) is a multi-award winning composer hailing from Canberra, Australia. A leading composer of her generation, Greenaway's music delights audiences and musicians alike through its expression of our most intimate to grandiose experiences of our world, often with a strong focus on nature, Australian landscape and our shared humanity.

Gramophone Magazine writes, "one of the most striking qualities of Greenaway's works ... is that feeling for landscape which also characterises the music of Peter Sculthorpe or Nigel Westlake, the spacious scoring and meandering melodiousness contributing to a sense of sublime restfulness."

Greenaway's writing spans a wide assortment of styles and genres, including classical solo, chamber and orchestral works, jazz ensemble and big band works, as well as film, advertising and documentary soundtracks.

Her music has been performed by Melbourne Symphony, Canberra Symphony, Brno Philharmonic, BBC Scottish Symphony and Royal Scottish National Orchestras; US Navy Big Band, Seattle Women's Jazz Orchestra and Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra; chamber music ensembles Muses Trio, PLEXUS and Syzygy, and most notably by numerous community groups nationally.

She is the recipient of several composing awards including an APRA Art Music Award for Instrumental Work of the Year (State Award, 2017). She is a post-graduate from the Royal College of Music, London, UK, where she received the Lucy Anne Jones Award, studying composition and orchestration.

Since returning to Australia, she has held lecturing posts at Sydney Conservatorium Jazz Department and Canberra Institute of Technology's Music Industry Centre and has given masterclasses and guest lectures at the Music Departments of Monash University (Melbourne) and the Australian National University (Canberra).

Greenaway is well known in the Australian music scene, having worked with many of Australia's music ensembles, ranging from school and community ensembles to Australia's leading orchestras and chamber ensembles. She is regularly invited to give masterclasses and workshops and adjudicate competitions, including the Young Virtuoso Awards for the Fine Music Network. She was Musical Director for ConneXion Big Band for 10 years and is often invited as guest Musical Director for a range of ensembles including choirs, big bands, orchestras and concert bands.

"Sally's music is an act of kindness. A bird song. The path of a swan. The pattern of a rose. It is light reflecting on water. It is walking through a forest." (Sarah Rice, poet and artist)
