Carl Crossin OAM - conductor, educator, clinician & composer - is widely respected as one of Australia's most experienced choral conductors. Carl is a graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music (Music Education & Classical Guitar), the University of Adelaide (Musicology), and has undertaken postgraduate studies in choral conducting at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey (USA) and in England.

Carl is currently Associate Professor of Music at the Elder Conservatorium of Music at the University of Adelaide. He has served in several leadership positions at the Elder Conservatorium - including five and a half years' service as Director of the Conservatorium - and is currently Head of Vocal, Choral & Conducting Studies at the Elder Conservatorium.

Carl has conducted a wide range of choirs in professional, community and educational (at both school and university levels) settings and, in addition to developing and managing one of the largest university choral programs in Australia at the University of Adelaide, Carl also teaches Conducting, and is conductor of the Elder Conservatorium Chorale. Carl has also prepared the Adelaide Symphony Chorus, the Adelaide Festival Chorus and other occasional choirs for performances with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra for over 20 years.

Carl's career as an educator is extensive and includes sixteen years as a high school music teacher and Music Co-ordinator (including 14 years at one of Adelaide's Special Music High Schools), and over two decades in the tertiary sector at both TAFE & University levels. Carl has been a member of the staff of the Elder Conservatorium of Music at the University of Adelaide since 2002.

Carl is Founder, Artistic Director and Conductor of the multi-award winning Adelaide Chamber Singers. In addition to their eight international tours, Adelaide Chamber Singers has, under Carl's direction, won two "Choir of the World" awards (Kathaumixw 2006 in Canada and Llangollen 2013 in Wales) as well as the Vincitore del Gran Premio in Rome (2013) and six out of six Gold Awards (1st Places) in competitions in Rome and Austria (2013). Carl Crossin & Adelaide Chamber Singers were also awarded a 2011 Ruby Award by the South Australian Government and ARTS SA for 'sustained contribution by an organisation'.

In addition to his concert and touring work as a regular co-conductor of Gondwana Chorale (a nationally auditioned youth choir) at the Gondwana National Choral School, Carl's guest conducting appearances in recent years have included: Sydney Philharmonia, Melbourne Chorale, Sydney Chamber Choir, Brisbane Chamber Choir, Polyphonic Voices (Melbourne) The Giovanni Consort (Perth), Luminescence Chamber Singers (Canberra) and the National Youth Choir of Australia - of which he was artistic director and conductor from 2008 - 2014.

Carl has conducted his various choirs on many international, national and regional tours over the past 35 years, and has been a clinician, guest conductor, conducting teacher and adjudicator at summer schools, festivals, conferences and competitions throughout Australia and internationally, including in England, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand and the USA.

As a composer, Carl currently writes mostly for choirs - although instrumental works are being added to his creative output. Much of his choral music has been composed for Adelaide Chamber Singers but he has also written several works on commission from Greta Bradman, Young Adelaide Voices, the Queensland Chapter of the RSCM, Graduate Singers and several school and community choirs. His many arrangements are also currently being enjoyed by a range of choirs around the world.

In 2007, Carl was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his services to music.
