Composer Holly Harrison has been awarded the inaugural Sue W Chamber Music Composition Prize ($7,000) for her work Lobster Tales and Turtle Soup. The work draws inspiration from Lewis Carroll's classic Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and was first performed by the US ensemble Eighth Blackbird as part of their Musica Viva tour early in 2017. Scored for flute/piccolo, clarinet/bass clarinet, violin, cello, percussion and piano, Lobster Tales and Turtle Soup was commissioned by Musica Viva Australia with support from Geoff Stearn and the Hildegard Project.

The judging panel was chaired by composer and professor at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Liza Lim. The judges praised the work's 'vitality and witty theatrical flair; its sophisticated scoring and stylistic interplay in a jazz idiom'.
