Opportunity: 2018 Albert H Maggs Composition Award

Opportunity: 2018 Albert H Maggs Composition Award

The Melbourne Conservatorium of Music invites submissions for the 2018 Albert H Maggs Composition Award. This Award is provided as a commission for Australian composers for the creation of a musical work of a substantial nature.

The value of the award offered will be approximately $7,000 for the commissioned new musical work, with approximately $3,000 performance subsidy also provided. Applications for this scholarship close at 11.59pm on Monday 3 September 2018. Applicants can expect to receive an outcome by the end of October.

Entries are open to any Australian composer who has been a continuous resident in Australia for at least two years before the closing date for applications. Previous awardees are also welcome to apply.

The Maggs Award is not limited to 'classical' music, and it doesn't preclude jazz or works influenced by jazz. The panel will primarily consider entries for their compositional merit, together with the career of the composer.

Applications should include: a list of works, an overview of commissions, publications and performances, and a score and matching recording of ONE composition written in the last three years.

> For full details, and to submit an application, please see the Albert H Maggs Composition Award website.
