New resource kits from the AMC

AMC has just released three new resource kits and music study guides, focusing on music by Raffaele Marcellino, Peter Sculthorpe and Elena Kats-Chernin.


Whitlam Rags
- music by Raffaele Marcellino; resource kit by Christine Carroll. RRP $75.00; AMC members' price: $67.50

This music study guide is based on composer Raffaele Marcellino's The Whitlam Rags for performance by secondary schools. The extension activities in the kit are designed for use in the classroom and involve the three basic areas of musical activity - listening, performing and composing. Sculthorpe: an icon of Australian Music
- resource kit by Graeme Skinner. RRP: $55.00; AMC members' price : $50.00

This education kit is designed to enhance the information base and skills of music students at secondary level, focusing on aural and musicological comprehension. It introduces the composer with a general discussion of his life, career works, followed by six units with background, analyses and discussions of seven works on the included CD. Inventing Elena
- The Music of Elena Kats-Chernin - resource kit by Mark Grandison. RRP: $55.00; members' price: $50.00.

This kit is designed to enhance the aural and musicological skills of both secondary and tertiary music students. The kit includes an 82-page booklet including background information, score excerpts and activities for students, and a CD of Kats-Chernin's compositions, performed by Kats-Chernin and Sydney Omega Ensemble. Five works have been selected for close analysis and of these, Re-Inventions is the main focus of the kit. Improvisation activities and classroom-styled arrangements are also provided to enable a practical exposure to the compositions.
