New opportunity for female composers: Sue W Chamber Music Composition Prize

New opportunity for female composers: Sue W Chamber Music Composition Prize

As part of the initiative to support female composers in their career aspirations, the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, part of the University of Sydney, offers a new composition prize worth $7,000. The prize is sponsored by Sue and Richard Willgoss. Applicants for the Sue W Chamber Music Composition Prize must identify as a woman and be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.

Closing date for this first round of applications is Friday 13 October 2017 at 3pm. One $7,000 award will be granted to a female composer who is judged to have written the best original chamber music work for 4-15 solo parts, including voice if desired, with a maximum playing time of twelve (12) minutes. No use of electronics, amplification, computerised techniques, pre-recorded or pre-processed parts is allowed, and applicants may only submit one composition for consideration - both the score and recording must be anonymised. Permanent staff members of the University of Sydney are not eligible to apply.

The winner will be announced in December.
