Make Wind (Peggy Glanville-Hicks Commission)
In 2020, in response to the challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the AMC has commissioned thirteen artists and teams to create new works and online presentations under the banner of the prestigious Peggy Glanville-Hicks Address. One of the first projects to be made public, is 'Make Wind' by Arcadia Winds and composer Lachlan Skipworth. For more Peggy Glanville-Hicks Commissions, please see the project page.
'Make Wind', launched on 29 July 2020, is a project that brings the joy of playing wind instruments to homes around Australia and the world. For the first phase of this project, Arcadia Winds have produced four instructional videos that teach viewers how to make and play all sorts of homemade wind instruments - from bottle flutes, to straw oboes, to hosepipe horns, to paddle pop stick 'clarimonicas'
For the second phase of this project, Australian composer Lachlan Skipworth has devised an original score and click track for participants of all skill levels to play along with. Participants are invited to record themselves playing their homemade instruments, and to send their recordings to Arcadia Winds and Skipworth. They will then combine these videos and sounds into a new composition - a celebration of wind music made in isolation by people all around the country.
'Make Wind' will be covered on Resonate in more detail as the project unfolds.
