The Federal government has announced a support package targeting the arts industry, with emphasis on assisting major organisations, theatres and the screen industry to restart operations over 12 months. The package will be worth $250 million in grants and loans.

According to the brief media release, the package includes $75 million in grants to reactivate productions, tours, festivals and events as social distancing restrictions ease over 2020-21; $90 million in Commonwealth-guaranteed bank loans to assist in funding new productions and events; $50 million for the screen industry to help resume production; and $35 million in direct financial assistance for major organisations. The government is also establishing a task force to partner with the Australia Council for the Arts to support employment in the sector.
