George Dreyfus turns 90 - and you can join in the celebration

One of our respected art music elders, composer George Dreyfus AM, turns 90 on the 22 of July. The AMC would like extend our warm congratulations to Dreyfus - may his remarkable energy and life force persist for many more years.

A creator of operas, symphonies, chamber works, and scores for over 60 film and television productions, Dreyfus has never been one to follow other people's lead, instead trusting his own instinct to show him the way. This hasn't prevented him from warmly acknowledging the many people that have believed in him, as evident in his famous 'boyed up' acceptance speech at the 2013 Art Music Awards, where he was presented with the Distinguished Services to Australian Music Award (read more on Resonate).

You can join in the celebration on Sunday 22 July at the Hawthorne Arts Centre - bring your instrument and/or your singing voice, details about rehearsals and how to access the music are included in the event record in the AMC's Australian Music Calendar.

Earlier this year (15 April), the Monash Academy Orchestra, conducted by Benjamin Northey, performed a program featuring some of Dreyfus's orchestral works.
