Last week, the Australian Music Centre was saddened to hear about the passing of our Associate Artist, Ursula Caporali.

Ursula was a well-loved composition tutor at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music where she taught and inspired the next generation of Australian composers.

Her former student Josephine Macken, composer and Production Assistant at the AMC, has written a moving tribute to Ursula in a testament to her creative influence and inspiration:

"I was devastated to learn of the recent passing of Ursula Caporali, a fierce composer, fine musician and even finer person.

The outpouring of tributes from her former students speaks to the breadth and profundity of her impact on the contemporary classical world. I was one such lucky former student; Ursula was my first ever composition teacher, and those dynamic early lessons encouraged in me a playfulness and recklessness that continues to sustain my love for music-making.

I'm comforted in knowing that while her absence is felt by her family, friends and community, her imaginative spirit and musical courage is sustained in both the striking music left in her wake and the creative lives of those fortunate enough to have known her."

The Australian Music Centre sends our deepest condolences to Ursula's family and friends.
