The winner of the 2015 Australia Council Don Banks Music Award is singer-songwriter Archie Roach - a powerful voice for Indigenous Australians and a great storyteller whose career spans three decades and ten albums. The winner of the Banks award was made public in a slightly different manner from previous years - this year, the Australia Council has bundled up 10 different awards into one big announcement, made earlier this week.

In addition to the Don Banks Music Award, the ten Awards include the Lifetime Achievement Award in Literature (author Thomas Keneally), Australia Council Visual Arts Awards (Judy Watson, Will Stubbs), Outstanding Achievement Awards in Emerging & Experimental Arts (performance artist Stelarc), Dance (Garry Stewart - Australian Dance Theatre, Adelaide), and Theatre (Bruce Gladwin - Back to Back Theatre, Geelong), as well as three Community Arts and Cultural Development Awards (Tony Doyle, Alyson Evans, Alysha Herrmann).

The Don Banks Music Award honours a distinguished artist aged over 50 who has made an outstanding and sustained contribution to music in Australia. Past winners include Mike Nock (2014), Kev Carmody (2013), Jon Rose (2012), Belinda Webster (2011) and Warren Fahey (2010).

The Awards ceremony will take place in Sydney on 19 March. An exhibition celebrating the winners will be at the Australia Council office in Surry Hills from 11 March until 8 May.
