Huw Belling is the winner of the Canberra International Music Festival Young Composers Competition. Huw has been commissioned to compose a short work for the Grainger String Quartet which will be premiered at the festival in May.

Damian Barbeler is one of the four finalists of the Toru Takemitsu Composition Award 2008. Selected this year by Steve Reich, the final works were chosen from 76 entries across 27 different countries. Damian’s work God in the Machine, along with works by Toru Nakatani ( Japan), Yuichi Matsumoto ( Japan), and Tomás Barreiro ( Mexico), will be performed in May this year at the Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall where Reich will announce the final winner. The Takemitsu Composition Award is an annual competition for orchestral composition, and, following Takemitsu's principles ‘Prayer, Hope, Peace’, aims to encourage a younger generation of composers to write for orchestra.

Colin Black has had his works chosen to be preserved at the National Library of France (Bibliothèque Nationale de France). Black’s work will be part of the Institute de Musique Électroacoustique de Bourges / Bibliothèque Nationale de France Collection project. This Phonothèque is planned to include biographies, program notes and audio recordings in an interactive database which will be made public both at the National Library of France in Paris and the Zurich University of the Arts (Switzerland). In the near future this Phonothèque will also be available online from these institutions.

Margaret Brandman was recently awarded the 'Glebe TrueLocal' award for best Business/Professional services in the Inner West of Sydney. As a composer, performer and educator, she has worked in diverse areas of the music community and currently has over 35 students in her studio in the inner west of Sydney. Brandman has also gained international recognition through her pioneering of a holistic approach to music education, her high school text book Accent on Music and her Contemporary series method books are available worldwide.
