Classical:NEXT Fellows Program - call for expressions of interest

Classical:NEXT Fellows Program - call for expressions of interest

The Australian Music Centre and APRA AMCOS are pleased to open a call for expressions of interest in being part of the 2017 Classical:NEXT Fellows Program.

EOIs are being sought from emerging professionals or experienced, senior students in the fields of composition, music performance or music presentation to participate in this program.

The program will see two successful Australian applicants (1 composer and 1 other) attending 2017 Classical:NEXT in Rotterdam in May. They will be assigned an experienced Classical:NEXT veteran as a mentor, and given the opportunity to network with over 1,000 professionals attending the event. Workshops on networking and researching networking targets are a part of the program, along with a special fellows get-together event, held during Classical:NEXT.

This is a unique opportunity to take advantage of the wealth of knowledge and networking opportunities offered by Classical:NEXT. The program is facilitated by Classical:NEXT, Codarts University of the Arts (NL), and a number of international partners.

Successful applicants will be provided with a stipend contributing to travel costs to Rotterdam, accommodation costs, Classical:NEXT registration costs, and per diem expenses. It is expected that the Australian Fellows Program participants will also fully engage with the Australian delegation to Classical:NEXT, under the banner of the Sounds Australia stand.

Classical:NEXT is a global gathering for art music with 1,200 professionals from 45 countries. All branches of the classical music tree are present, including orchestras, opera and music theatre, chamber music, publishers, arts presenters from concert venues and festivals, music export offices, labels, distributors, journalists, artist managers, musicians, and more. In addition to networking opportunities, the extensive Classical:NEXT conference program offers an overview as well as deep insights into key themes, current trends and future visions relevant to all sectors in the industry. Project pitches and live showcases complete the package with insights into artistic creations from around the world.

To lodge an EOI, you must:

• Be a member of APRA, and a financial member of the AMC.
• Provide a 1-page CV outlining your participation, level of engagement and experience in your field, including your international experience, if any (see also description of candidates' desired personal attributes below)
• Include a brief statement (no more than 500 words) outlining how participation in the Fellowship Program might benefit you, and assist in achieving your goals in an international context, and why developing your international profile is important at this particular stage of your career.
• Attach 2 written references attesting to the program requirements, and supporting your candidature
• Provide your contact details, mailing address, web page URL, and links to your works/activities online - content that best represents you.

In relation to personal attributes, we are seeking candidates who possess not only strong artistic skills, but who also are self-starters, good communicators and networkers. We seek candidates who are informed beyond their own practice, and who are able to speak to the wider Australian context. If you have the capacity to offer some reciprocal opportunities for other Fellows, or other Classical:NEXT delegates, this may work to your advantage.

Please by 3 January 2017. Successful candidates will be informed around 1 March 2017.

This opportunity is supported by APRA AMCOS and the Australian Music Centre.
