Australia Council fellowship to Genevieve Lacey

Australia Council fellowship to Genevieve Lacey

Recorder player Genevieve Lacey has been granted a two-year fellowship to research and create new collaborative works for her instrument. The Music Board of the Australia Council for the Arts granted three $90,000 fellowships - the other two recipients for 2012 were Nicky Bomba and Gareth Liddiard.

Four project fellowships of $25,000 each went to David Chisholm, Lucas Abela, Joseph Tawadros and Katie Noonan. Artist development grant recipients included the AMC's associate artists Rae Howell and Toby Wren.

The Music Board also considered nominations for the Don Banks Award (recipient to be announced in March 2012) and assessed applications to international residencies at the Cité International des Arts, Paris. The 2012 residencies were granted to Thomas Clayton and Erkki Veltheim. The residencies are offered every three years.

In all, 111 applications were considered with a total request for almost $3.5 million. 22 applications were successful, to a funded total of $534,555. Three peer advisors assisted the board in the meetings. In this round, a noticeable number of applications came from jazz musicians and percussionists, while a relatively low number of applications was received from mid-career artists - a group highlighted as a priority in the grant guidelines.
