ASQ National Composers' Forum

The Australian String Quartet have selected the following five composers to participate in the National Composers' Forum on 27 to 29 August 2010.

Ross Carey and Adam Starr, from Victoria
Mark Holdsworth, from Western Australia
Melody Eötvös and Thomas Green, from Queensland

The composers will have their compositions workshopped under the guidance of Carl Vine, noted composer and Artistic Director of Musica Viva Australia, and performed and recorded by the Australian String Quartet. The program for the Forum will include a lecture demonstration of Carl Vine speaking about his approach to string quartet writing with specific reference to his third quartet. Tim Matthies and Carl Vine will talk about the development of Musica Viva's annual International Concert Season, and how music by Australian composers is threaded through the organisation's activities. John Davis will lead a forum on Professional and creative development pathways for composers including; publishing, distribution and building relationships with performers. The selected composers will receive a special invitation to attend the Forum, a copy of the CD recording of the final concert, an invitation to attend the Forum Dinner as guests of ASQ and a return economy airfare from their city of residence up to the value of $350 and a contribution of up to $200 for accommodation.

The National Composers' Forum is presented by the ASQ in cooperation with the Australian Music Centre, the University of Adelaide, Musica Viva, Government of South Australia/Arts SA, and the Australia Council for the Arts.

Australian String Quartet (Sophie Rowell, Anne Horton, Sally Boud and Rachel Johnston) is the-quartet-in-residence at the Elder Conservatorium of Music, University of Adelaide.
