ASO's resident composers explore cross-culturalism with Tan Dun
Image: The AMC's associate artist Annie Hsieh, one of ASO's six resident composers Six young composers - Annie Hui-Hsin Hsieh, Lachlan Skipworth, Tristan Coelho, Melody Eötvös, Christopher Larkin and Timothy Tate - are involved in the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra's composer residency program in 2012. The group got together for the first sessions in June, including workshops with James Ledger and rehearsals and performances of Ross Edwards's new saxophone concerto.
Further workshops and public events will take place in September, including talks and panel discussions (involving composer Gerard Brophy and the AMC CEO John Davis, on 19 September - registrations essential) as well as a masterclass with composer Tan Dun (20 September).
A concert with resident composers' music played by members of the ASO will take place on 23 September during the OzAsia Festival. In this concert, composers will be exploring cross-cultural approaches to composition, inspired and guided by Tan Dun. For full event details, please see the AMC Calendar. A recital of Tan Dun's music will take place on 21 September at the Adelaide Festival Centre.
