ARIA Awards to Tamara Anna Cislowska and Barney McAll

Pianists Barney McAll and Tamara Anna Cislowska have been announced as winners of this year's ARIA Awards. Barney McAll was awarded in the category Best Jazz Album for his album Mooroolbark (ABC Jazz), while Cislowska's award came for Complete works for solo piano by Peter Sculthorpe (ABC Classics) in the Best Classical Album category. The two awards were announced as part of the ARIA Fine Arts and Artisan Awards in the ARIA Nominations event on Wednesday 7 October. The rest of this year's ARIA winners will be revealed in Sydney at the end of November.

Also nominated in the Best Classical Album category were Amy Dickson's recording of Australian saxophone concertos Island Songs (ABC Classics), Australian Brandenburg Orchestra's Brandenburg Celebrates (ABC Classics - includes a work by Elena Kats-Chernin), Grigoryan Brothers' This Time (Which Way Music - Houghton, Westlake et al.) and Sally Whitwell's I Was Flying (ABC Classics). Nominees for the Best Jazz Album included Ithaca Bound by Allan Browne Quintet (Jazzhead, music by late Allan Browne) and Paul Grabowsky's Solo (ABC Jazz).

Nominated in other Fine Arts categories were Genevieve Lacey & James Crabb's album Heard This and Thought of You (ABC Classics, nominated in the World Music category - includes music by Damian Barbeler and Andrea Keller); Melbourne Symphony Orchestra's CD Paper Planes (ABC Classics, nominated for the Best Soundtrack/Cast/Show album - music by Nigel Westlake) and Opera Australia's recording of Brett Dean and Amanda Holden's opera Bliss (ABC Classics - also in the Best Soundtrack/Cast/Show category)

The ARIA Awards are organised yearly by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA).
