AMC secures 4-year core funding from the Australia Council for the Arts

AMC secures 4-year core funding from the Australia Council for the Arts

The Australia Council for the Arts has released the list of successful applicants in the new Four Year Funding for Organisations program, providing multi-year core program funding for small to medium arts organisations of significant regional, national or international standing. The new program replaces the Council's earlier Key Organisations programs.

The Australian Music Centre is among the music organisations funded for 2017-2020, as are APRA's Sounds Australia program, Australian Art Orchestra, the Australian String Quartet, Speak Percussion, The Song Company, Canberra and Darwin Symphony Orchestras, Ensemble Offspring, Victorian Opera as well as many other music, multi-artform, community and experimental arts organisations such as Tura New Music, the Campbelltown Arts Centre, PICA (Perth) and the Footscray Community Arts Centre.

The arts community at large has expressed great concern about the long-term effects of reduced funding available via the Australia Council to small-medium arts organisations, following cuts to Council's own funding in the 2015-2016 Federal budget. A significant number of previously funded arts organisations, from music and visual arts organisations to theatre and dance groups, have been left without core operational funding beyond 2016. Current funding arrangements through the Key Organisations conclude on 31 December 2016.
