2019 Australia Day honours: Elena Kats-Chernin, Lyn Williams, Jeanell Carrigan
Composer Elena Kats-Chernin has been appointed Officer (AO) of the Order of Australia for her 'distinguished service to the performing arts, particularly to music, as an orchestral, operatic and chamber music composer'. Other artists recognised in this year's Australia Day honours list include conductor Lyn Williams from Gondwana Choirs, and Dr Jeanell Carrigan, a pianist known particularly for her many recordings of Australian repertoire, including on the AMC's Vox Australis label. Both women were appointed Members (AM) of the Order of Australia.
Other members of the music community recognised this time around include Dr Cindy Bennett (AM), Musica Viva's long-term CEO Mary-Jo Capps (AM); Prof John Griffiths (AM); violinist Dr Goetz Richter (AM), ABC Classic FM's long-term producer Owen Chambers (OAM), long-term artistic director of multiple jazz festivals Adrian Jackson (OAM) and founder of the Decca Eloquence label, Cyrus Meher-Homji (OAM).
