2018 Classical:NEXT fellows: Aura Go and Matthias Schack-Arnott
Image: Aura Go The 2018 Classical:NEXT fellows have been announced. Pianist Aura Go and percussionist and composer Matthias Schack-Arnott were selected from a very competitive group of applicants and will join the Australian delegation at the Classical:NEXT industry event in Rotterdam on 16-19 May, supported by APRA AMCOS and the Australian Music Centre.
Born in Melbourne and currently based in Helsinki, Aura Go is known for championing new and Australian work. She enjoys a multifaceted musical life as soloist, chamber musician, conductor and educator. She studied at the Victorian College of the Arts and ANAM before attaining her Master of Music from Yale University. Classical:NEXT will provide her with an opportunity to further strengthen her already existing international networks as well as her Australian connections, and to explore the latest innovative ways of presenting musical experiences.
Melbourne-based Matthias Schack-Arnott works in contemporary classical and experimental music as a performer, composer, improviser and key component of Speak Percussion. Schack-Arnott's solo work explores unique approaches to percussive performance, and his percussion duo Anicca (2016) was shortlisted for the 2017 Art Music Awards in the Excellence in Experimental Music category. The Classical:NEXT fellowship will give him the opportunity to observe and discuss new ideas and perspectives with his own practice in mind, and meet with potential international presenters for his work as well as to find out about current trends and future directions.
The assessment panel was made up of industry representatives, and representatives from the AMC Board.
