The 2017 Australia Day honours list has recognised composer, Emeritus Professor Larry Sitsky 'for his distinguished service to the arts as a composer and concert pianist, to music education as a researcher and mentor, and through musical contributions to Australia's contemporary culture'. Sitsky was appointed Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) alongside several prominent singer-songwriters (Jimmy Barnes, Paul Kelly and Nick Cave).

Artists recognised for their contribution to music also included the artistic director of the Moorambilla Voices and the Leichhardt Espresso Chorus, Michelle Leonard (Medal of the Order of Australia, OAM), the late pianist and composer Allan Zavod, and a long-term AMC member and former president of MAGA, Dawn Nettheim.
