Work Overview
This work was commissioned by Jenny Going for Essendon Symphony Orchestra with funding from Moonee Valley Council. The premiere performance was given on 23 June 2019 at the Clocktower Centre, Moonee Ponds.
As a resident of Moonee Ponds - part of the greater Moonee Valley area - I walk, run, ride and drive through its streets building a ground map of intersecting main roads, short-cuts, intriguing cul-de-sacs and private laneways. And the view of the city from the top of the Moonee Valley Racecourse at night is quite beautiful. Light aircraft flying South from Essendon airport would get a perfect 'Aerial View of the Valley' - something that Google Maps can only allude to. This musical snapshot is written in contemplation of the light and shade - the quietude and the grandeur of our locality.
